Our engagement with society and local communities
We recognise that our activities can affect those people in close proximity to our operations and engage with them from the outset. Mitigating environmental and health and safety risks are our priority, in particular water, chemical and waste management.
While not all UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are relevant to our business, we use the UN matrix to identify and assess any potential impacts of our activities on our stakeholders. That way we minimize potential negative impacts and maximize social and economic benefits
We welcome the opportunity to make a positive social and economic impact by improving local infrastructure such as roads and the availability and quality of water as well as educational and medical initiatives.
At a national level, we provide ‘fair value’ gas to meet residential demand – this is a cornerstone of our social obligations. We are also making a significant contribution to national healthcare through the establishment of a new state-of-the-art comprehensive oncology centre and clinic which will benefit patients throughout Uzbekistan and the wider region.
Through biodiversity impact assessments, we strive to protect the habitats, ecosystems and species in the locations where we work.
